# 2. Central Bank

Since February 2, 2026, the provision of virtual asset services in Brazil depends on <mark style="background-color:purple;">authorization from the Central Bank of Brazil</mark>, under Law No. 14,478/2022 and BCB Resolutions No. 519, 520 and 521, of November 10, 2025, regulated by the Normative Instructions listed in this section.

Relevant transition deadlines:

* by 30/10/2026: filing of phase 1 of the authorization request by companies that were already providing virtual asset services on 02/02/2026 (BCB Resolution No. 520, art. 88, I; BCB Normative Instruction No. 704, art. 9);
* from 06/11/2026: prohibition on institutions authorized by the Central Bank from carrying out or facilitating transactions with virtual asset service providers not authorized to operate in the country (BCB Resolution No. 520, art. 91, as amended by BCB Resolution No. 589/2026).
